MGNS.FOTO is my portrait, fashion and editorial work: people photographed as the lead in a scene built around them. I started making my own images after more than ten years on film, TV and music video sets in Los Angeles, about half of that time in the Art Department as a Set Dresser, Leadman and Art Assistant, and I still work in the industry today. On set, nothing in a frame is accidental. Every texture, color and object is chosen to say something about the person standing there. I bring that same thinking to every shoot: the person first, with the space, wardrobe, props and light as equal partners.
I photograph people fashion tends to pass over, most of them people I know or meet while traveling. Each one gets a setting I've imagined for them, built or found to match who they are. By the time the shutter clicks, they own a room or environment they never knew they belonged in. In every frame, they're the most powerful presence in the room. That power was always theirs. I just make it impossible to miss.
My control of light, color and composition lets any place read as a high-end film still, one frame from a longer scene with a before and an after. My influences span film and photography, and you can see them in the work: bold, saturated color, light that sets the whole mood, and spaces that feel bigger than the room they're in.
Past collaborators include musicians, clothing brands, jewelry designers and artists, from fully self-produced shoots to studio work with a small crew. Available for commissions and collaborations across the U.S. and internationally.
